In 2004, Modest Mouse assured us that “we’ll float on, good news is on the way.”
Now, Rolling Stone has assured Modest Mouse that their song “Float On” is indeed one of the best 100 songs of the decade.
Rolling Stone’s ‘Best 100 Songs of the Decade‘ lists Modest Mouse’s “Float On” at No. 38 of 100. The review calls the song “a snappy, silver-lined indie-pop march that asserts, ‘Good news is on the way.’ A summer of ‘04 hit, its chill-pill positivity nailed the zeitgeist during Bush’s re-election: Good news is slow sometimes.”

“Satellite Skin” is the first single off of Modest Mouse’s forthcoming release, title TBD. Singer Isaac Brock grumbles about his feelings in this guitar-friendly ballad that Rolling Stone recently gave 3 1/2 stars.
Modest Mouse has no current tour plans on the books, but they are making an appearance to perform at the Bumbershoot Music Festival in September. But with new material on the way, can a tour be far behind?

Who knew there was a connection between Modest Mouse and the late great actor Heath Ledger? Apparently Ledger had a video production company that dabbled in music videos. Working with Terry Gilliam (who directed 12 Monkeys and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas), Ledger directed the video for “King Rat”, a bonus track off of Modest Mouse’s 2007 album We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank.
Up to this point, the video has not been released. But recently the band confirmed in a U.K. newspaper interview that it would be released “soon.”
How did the idea even come about? Isaac Brock, MM’s frontman, and Ledger had a mutual friend who tossed the idea around with them while they were all hanging out together in Australia. Ledger had already done work with Ben Harper and Nick Drake.
We look forward to seeing this late masterpiece from the talented Heath Ledger.
