The Heath Ledger-Modest Mouse Connection
Who knew there was a connection between Modest Mouse and the late great actor Heath Ledger? Apparently Ledger had a video production company that dabbled in music videos. Working with Terry Gilliam (who directed 12 Monkeys and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas), Ledger directed the video for “King Rat”, a bonus track off of Modest Mouse’s 2007 album We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank.
Up to this point, the video has not been released. But recently the band confirmed in a U.K. newspaper interview that it would be released “soon.”
How did the idea even come about? Isaac Brock, MM’s frontman, and Ledger had a mutual friend who tossed the idea around with them while they were all hanging out together in Australia. Ledger had already done work with Ben Harper and Nick Drake.
We look forward to seeing this late masterpiece from the talented Heath Ledger.
