Now, Rolling Stone has assured Modest Mouse that their song “Float On” is indeed one of the best 100 songs of the decade.

Rolling Stone’s ‘Best 100 Songs of the Decade‘ lists Modest Mouse’s “Float On” at No. 38 of 100. The review calls the song “a snappy, silver-lined indie-pop march that asserts, ‘Good news is on the way.’ A summer of ‘04 hit, its chill-pill positivity nailed the zeitgeist during Bush’s re-election: Good news is slow sometimes.”

Modest Mouse has no current tour plans on the books, but they are making an appearance to perform at the Bumbershoot Music Festival in September. But with new material on the way, can a tour be far behind?

Who knew there was a connection between Modest Mouse and the late great actor Heath Ledger? Apparently Ledger had a video production company that dabbled in music videos. Working with Terry Gilliam (who directed 12 Monkeys and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas), Ledger directed the video for “King Rat”, a bonus track off of Modest Mouse’s 2007 album We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank.

Up to this point, the video has not been released. But recently the band confirmed in a U.K. newspaper interview that it would be released “soon.”

How did the idea even come about? Isaac Brock, MM’s frontman, and Ledger had a mutual friend who tossed the idea around with them while they were all hanging out together in Australia. Ledger had already done work with Ben Harper and Nick Drake.

We look forward to seeing this late masterpiece from the talented Heath Ledger.

Modest Mouse, after touring with R.E.M. in their Accelerate tour in 2008, is working on a new album. “My big priority is to finish up this Modest Mouse EP, said front man Isaac Brock.

Adding songs like “The Whale Song,” “Satellite Skin” and a track with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band are all re-polished outtakes from Modest Mouse’s last two albums. “I’m not really good at taking it easy” added Brock.

Modest Mouse plans to participate in the annual Rock for Kids Rock & Roll Charity Auction. The auction, which consists of autographed posters from various groups and celebrities, supports homeless and underprivileged youngsters. The auction has raised more than $3 million dollars for the cause in the past.
